faq

Am I eligible to apply for accommodation at SCU Village?

All Southern Cross University students are eligible to apply for accommodation at SCU Village, including research assistants and full-time, part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

ACCOMMODATION

Are pets allowed?

There is a strict no pets policy at SCU Village. This includes goldfish and birds. Additionally, residents are not permitted to bring animals into any building of the Village. This Rule does not apply to the extent that it restricts the keeping of a guide or hearing dog.

ACCOMMODATION

Are priorities given to particular students?

The Village hosts a diverse range of residents from all over the world and across Australia, and we see this as a true strength of our community. To ensure fairness, we don't give preference to any group over others. We encourage all applicants to submit the relevant forms as early as possible to avoid disappointment. SCU Village reserves room allocation rights and submission of an application for residency does not guarantee that you will be allocated a room unless and until you are made an offer of a room and accept that offer based on its terms.

ACCOMMODATION

Can I choose my flatmates?

If you'd like to share an apartment with a friend, please specify this on your application form. Given our high demand, we can't guarantee to fulfill all requests, but we'll definitely try our best to accommodate you.

The earlier you and your friend apply, the easier it is for us to assign you to the same apartment.

ACCOMMODATION

Can my partner live with me?

Spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends can apply for accommodation at SCU Village, as long as they are students at Southern Cross University. Couples will be provided with individual rooms, however you can request to be allocated rooms in the same apartment. SCU Village reserves room allocation rights.

ACCOMMODATION

Do you provide a cleaning service?

All residents are responsible for keeping their rooms and apartments clean. A cleaning service can be organised for a fee. Please enquire at Reception.

FACILITIES

Do you provide internet access?

Broadband connectivity is available in every bedroom at the Village. Internet packages can be organised through our internet provider, AccessPlus. See fees for more information on packages

We also have an e-library with computers and laptop connectivity where you can access the internet for free, subject to certain terms and conditions prescribed by our internet provider.

FACILITIES

How close is SCU Village to the University and the town centre?

SCU Village is located on the University’s Lismore campus. To give you an idea of how close you are to your classes, it takes approximately five minutes to walk to the main courtyard, and just two minutes to the library.

A 10 minute bus ride will take you from the University bus stop to the town centre’s shops and restaurants. Whether you want to do some shopping, visit the crafts markets or pick up some homegrown stone fruit, macadamia nuts and coffee, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

ACCOMMODATION

How is the SCU Village experience different to private rental accommodation?

SCU Village offers an independent living experience in affordable accommodation, just minutes away from classes! At the same time, we ensure support is available, and offer a fantastic residential life program to help you live, learn and grow.

This means that you have the freedom to do what you want (within reason of course and subject to the Village Rules) and can enjoy the benefits of living in an exciting student community. You also have peace of mind knowing that there are always staff available to provide assistance.

In short, we offer a fantastic balance between support and independence that you just won't find anywhere else!

ACCOMMODATION

How long are your residential agreements?

SCU Village offers 40 week residential agreements, which means you don’t have to pay for accommodation over the summer period if you’ll be away. If you would like to extend your residential agreement into the summer holiday, please contact us to make arrangements.

ACCOMMODATION, FEES

Is catering available?

SCU Village doesn't provide catering. However each apartment has a full kitchen including a fridge, freezer, stovetop and microwave so feel free to cook up a storm at any time of day. If you need some tips, join one of our cooking classes! Check our event calendar to see if one is coming up.

If you're in the mood to eat out, we're just 10 minutes from the town centre’s restaurants and cafes. Whether you want to pick up some takeaway or have a nice dinner with friends, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
